GETTING AROUND BY ROAD

The road network is free, extensive and well maintained and generally provides access to major tourist sites. As in France, driving is on the right, and traffic regulations and road signs are the same as those used in European countries. If you’d like to be completely independent on your holiday, don’t hesitate to hire a car. Taxis are widely available on every island in the archipelago. Taxi stations are marked and can be found at airports, in front of selected hotels, in major cities and near bus terminals and ferry landings.

GETTING AROUND BY AIR

Regional airlines as well as ferry services link Guadeloupe’s various islands and the rest of the Caribbean. Frequent daily flights are available.

Marie-Galante Airport, Grand-Bourg:
In addition to its ferry links, Marie-Galante has air service via its airport, located in the Les Basses section of Grand-Bourg. The airport offers an easy approach and landing.

Terre-de-Haut Airport:
One of the smallest airports in Guadeloupe, the Terre-de-Haut Airport is available for small passenger aircraft. Special qualifications are required to land at Terre-de-Haut.

La Désirade Airport:
Located along the sandy beaches of La Désirade’s coast, this small airport provides an air link between the island and Grande-Terre. It is aligned with the trade winds and easy to approach, but landing can be difficult.

Saint-François Airport:
This was once the smallest international airport in the world! It is well situated and includes a customs office. This airport is excellent for teaching young pilots. It offers an easy approach and landing.

Bailiff Airport:
Located in southern Basse-Terre, this airport serves as a regional gateway for small aircraft. The airport faces the Caribbean Sea and is relatively difficult to approach.
