ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
Drilled between 1826 and 1829, the Canal des Rotours originated in the plain of Grippon (in the center of Grande-Terre), crossed the town of Morne-à-l'Eau and emptied into the Atlantic Ocean at Vieux-Bourg. The digging mobilized a workforce of 200 to 400 free or slave men and cost the lives of about thirty of them.
